If you’re looking for a cordless lawnmower, then the Flymo EasiStore range is well worth considering. In this review, we take a look at the entry-level model, the 300R Li.
Although it sits at the bottom of the EasiStore cordless lawnmower range, this by no means makes it cheap, so expect to pay around £230-£250 depending on offers available. Flymo does also have a cheaper cordless range, the Mighty Mo, and the bottom of the range Mighti Mo 300 Li is available for around £55-£75 cheaper than the 300R Li.
So how does the Flymo 300R Li cordless lawnmower compare?
Contents
Lawnmower Type and Power
The Flymo 300R Li is a cordless rotary mower that features two 20v lithium-ion batteries giving it a total voltage of 40v , which is “okay” for most cutting jobs and is comparable with competitors models such as the GreenWorks G40LM41K2X and the Yard Force 34cm cordless lawnmower.
Like most rechargeable batteries, the 330R’s can take a while to charge fully, especially if empty, and charging time is typically around 4 to 5 hours. Both batteries can be charged at the same time, saving a little bit of time. Run rate when fully charged is around 40 to 45 minutes which should be enough for most family garden lawns.
Cutting Performance
When it comes to cutting performance, the Flymo 300R Li has a 30cm cutting width which is typical for rotary mowers. Cutting height is conveniently adjustable between 25mm and 65mm, so you should have no problem getting that perfect lawn height.
A nice feature on the 300R Li is that it’s designed to be able to cut close to the edges so you don’t have to spend lots of time going back afterwards and tidying up with a trimmer.
Grass Collection & Emptying
As with most mowers at this price point, there is a grass collection box included with the Flymo 300R Li. On this model, it’s a large 30 litre design, and while although adequate for most gardens, it isn’t as large at the 35 litre box on the Yard Force 34cm cordless lawnmower.
Larger capacity grass collection boxes are usually found on more expensive models, so the compromise on smaller models is to make more frequent trips to the compost heap or waste bin, although this is made easier on the Flymo 300R Li as the grass box has a tongue design to make removal and refitting easier.
Manoeuvrability and Storage
Flymo has done a good job at keeping the weight low on the EasiStore 300R and it weighs in at a light 8.8 kg (some vacuum cleaners weigh this much). The whole idea behind Flymo’s EasiStore range is that you can store and transport the lawnmowers easily with some innovative folding and storage methods.
The 330R Li can be folded up and stored vertically, for example, meaning less space is required in the shed or garage. The handles are also easy to fold down and this makes the whole storage process very easy and quick.
Getting to and from the lawn is also easy as the 300R Li can be transported in an upright position using the handle and front wheels for easier manoeuvrability. A handle is also included on the top of the lawnmower for extra carrying convenience.
Other Features
As the Flymo 300R Li is a bottom of the range (albeit not cheap) lawnmower model then don’t expect to be too overwhelmed with extra features. You do get operating levers on each side of the handle for left or right-handed use, and although this is a fairly common feature, it’s worth checking for if you are left-handed.
A rear-mounted roller is also included if you are looking for that striped lawn finish.
Conclusion
The Flymo 300R Li is a good value cordless lawnmower from an established and trusted brand. While performance is average at this price point, the neat storage method makes it stand out. Definitely worth considering but also be sure to check out the Yard Force cordless lawnmower as well.
