If you have a budget of around £200 to £250 then there are several cordless lawnmowers on the market worth considering. One of these is the Yard Force 34cm (catchy name, we know).
So who are Yard Force? They specialise in garden power tools such as lawnmowers, leaf blowers and pressure washers and have a growing range, although you’ll mainly find them for sale on Amazon rather than large DIY stores.
At this price point, there are a number of alternatives from more well-known brands, such as the Flymo EasiStore 300R and Bosch UniversalRotak 36-550, so the Yard Force certainly has its work cut of when competing in this sector.
So how does the Yard Force 34cm compare?
Contents
Lawnmower Type and Power
The Yard Force 34cm is a cordless rotary blade lawnmower that is supplied with a single 2.5Ah 40v battery. This is actually a Samsung battery, so should be more reliable long term than lesser-known brands.
The battery, when fully charged, should give you a run time of around 45 minutes and charging takes 75 minutes, which is a lot quicker than other models. With this run time, the Yard Force 34cm is suitable for lawns up to 350 square metres.
The motor in the Yard Force 34cm is a brushless design which is quite unique as this price point and makes the lawnmower more efficient and reduces battery usage.
Cutting Performance
The Yard Force has a cutting width of 34cm (compared to 30cm on the Flymo EasiStore 300R). If you need something bigger, then 37cm and even 45cm cutting width models are available.
Height adjustment is in 7 stages giving you plenty of cutting options. We particularly like the “gear selector” height adjustment lever on the side of the mower. Options range from 25mm in height through to 75mm (the Flymo EasiStore 300R maximum cutting is 65mm).
Grass Collection & Emptying
The Yard Force has a large, 35 litre grass collection box that is part-bag, part-box, so it’s slightly lighter to carry than a full plastic collection box.
Again, the capacity is slightly more than better-known competitors at this price range. A level indicator is also provided so that you know when the collection bag is full.
Manoeuvrability and Storage
When it comes to easy of moving, the Yard Force 34cm weighs in at 14.5kg, which is average for this size of cordless lawnmower, although the Flymo EasiStore range is very lightweight in comparison.
You get a soft-grip handle with a handle-mounted bail arm style level to make operation easier in most positions. The handle can be folded across the top of the mower but the mower cannot easily be stored in an upright position.
Other Features
There’s not much else in the way of other features, as you would expect at this price, but the Yard Force 34cm does come with a rear-mounted roller which is ideal if you are looking for that striped lawn look.
One thing worth noting is that the Yard Force 34cm does have its fair share of quality and reliability complaints, although this is somewhat countered by the manufacturer’s two and half year guarantee.
Conclusion
The Yard Force 34cm is a worthy competitor in the lower end of the cordless lawnmower market. Compared to the Flymo EasiStore 300R its out does it on the technical spec front but falls short when it comes to innovative storage solutions. If storage is not a major concern though, then the Yard Force 34cm is definitely worth considering and adding to your shortlist.
